Spitfires 2010 Team Playoff and Historical Accomplishments
– Windsor won its second consecutive J. Ross Robertson Cup as Rogers OHL Champions and repeated as league champions for the first time in franchise history and the fourth time in OHL history, defeating the Barrie Colts 6-2 last night and sweeping the series four games to none. The Spitfires will now have the opportunity to defend their 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup Championship as they travel to Brandon, Manitoba for the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup.
– Windsor became the 100thteam to be awarded with the J. Ross Robertson Cup and the ninth team to win the cup in consecutive years.
– Windsor finished 16-3 during the post-season, and swept three of their four playoff series, defeating the Erie Otters (1stround), Plymouth Whalers (2ndround) and Barrie Colts (Championship round) four games to none. Windsor also made OHL history yet again, coming back from an 0-3 series deficit for the second time in franchise history and the third time in OHL history, as they won four straight games to defeat the Kitchener Rangers and win the Wayne Gretzky Trophy as Rogers Western Conference Champions for the second consecutive year.
– Counting last year??s MasterCard Memorial Cup tournament, Windsor is 11-0 when presented with the opportunity to end a playoff series and is also 7-0 in games during which they faced elimination during the past two post-season campaigns. Windsor has a 36-9 record overall in the playoffs during this span.
– Windsor outshot their opponents in 16 of the 19 games played during this year??s post-season and by an 856-568 margin overall.
– Windsor outscored their opponents 90-54 in the 2010 post-season.
– The Spitfires posted an 8-1 record on the road and were 8-2 at home.
– Windsor had the second best power play in the OHL playoffs, operating at a 24.4% as well as the second best penalty killing efficiency at 88.8%. They outscored their opponents 22 ?? 12 on special teams.
Spitfires 2010 Individual Playoff Accomplishments
– Forward Adam Henrique won the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award as the Most Valuable Player of the playoffs and scored at least one goal in 14 of Windsor??s 19 playoff games. Henrique was tied for the league lead with 20 post-season goals and finished tied for fourth in the OHL with teammates Ryan Ellis and Marc Cantin, sporting a +13 plus-minus rating. Overall, Henrique finished sixth in league scoring with 25 points and had a league high 7 game goal streak.
– Forward Taylor Hall led the OHL with 35 points in 19 playoff games and had 13 multi-point games in the post-season. He also finished second in the OHL with a +17 plus-minus rating, third in the OHL with 17 goals and tied for third in the league with 18 assists. Hall posted a league high 16 game point streak in the post-season.
– Defenceman Ryan Ellis led all OHL defencemen in scoring with 33 points in 19 playoff games and finished with 11 multi-point games. He also led the OHL with 30 assists and was tied for second in the league overall scoring race with 33 points. Ellis posted a league high 12 game assist streak in the playoffs.
– Goaltender Philipp Grubauer led all OHL goaltenders with 16 playoff wins and 2 shutouts. He was also ranked fifth in the league with a 2.69 goals against average during the post-season.
– Forward Scott Timmins was third in the OHL with a +15 plus-minus rating, tied for fifth in the OHL with 11 goals and eighth in OHL scoring with 22 points in 19 playoff games.
– Defenceman Mark Cundari led the OHL with a +19 plus-minus rating and finished second amongst all league defencemen with 18 points in 19 playoff games.
– Defenceman Cam Fowler finished sixth amongst all OHL defencemen with 14 points in 19 playoff games.
– Seven Spitfires finished in the league??s top 20 point scorers (1st Hall ?? 35, tied for 2nd Ellis ?? 33, 6th?? Henrique ?? 25, 8th Timmins ?? 22, 14th Mark Cundari ?? 18, tied for 15th Mitchell ?? 17, tied for 18th Kassian ?? 16)
