Curtis Douglas Signs with Belleville Sens of the AHL
Curtis Douglas of Oakville, Ontario has signed with the Belleville Senators of the American Hockey League. Douglas has played with the Spitfires since 2017 – 2018 season when he was traded here form the Barrie Colts. Douglas appeared in 166 games for the Spitfires and had a total of 141 points over that span. Recently, Douglas played in Austria for the Steel Wings Linz who play in the Alps Hockey League while the OHL has been on pause. Curtis recorded 12 points in 16 games with the Steel Wings which was good for third on the team.
The OHL and the Spitfires have had a significant impact on Douglas’s career. “It was amazing, the coaches were great and mgmt. both Warren and Bill were very supportive. I have made so many friendships and have had great teammates. The support staff do a great job and they make you feel like a professional. The organization has been great as a whole and I have had an excellent development over my 3 years as a Spitfire.”
Over the last few months of quarantine, Douglas had been preparing for an OHL season before it was put on pause because of COVID. He was lucky enough to get an opportunity to play in Austria and further his development.
“No one can see how people are working behind the scenes, people have worked really hard. I have made progress in the gym and have been working out throughout quarantine in the gym and at home. It has been a long time off, but I am excited, the time in Austria was a great opportunity and they have a great organization over there and really helped me prepare and develop further for this opportunity.”
Douglas was a fourth-round pick of the Dallas Stars in the 2018 NHL Entry draft but was not signed before the leagues deadline. However, this did not stop Douglas putting up 113 points over two seasons after his draft year and is very thankful for the opportunity.
“Its definitely a dream come true, and I am very grateful for the opportunity.” Douglas said. “I am very excited for this step in my career and to try to prove my worth in Belleville and as a professional hockey player.”
Douglas has fond memories of Windsor and has many people he would like to thank. “I would like to thank my family and friends who have supported me along the way.” Douglas started. “I have been thankful for the coaches, staff, teammates and my agent to help me grow and become the player I am today and to continue to grow.”
