Akeson Sets New Team Record in Rangers – Knights Game
Kitchener Rangers’ Jason Akeson set a new team record of 84 for regular season assists in a 4-3 loss to the London Knights.
Vladislav Namestnikov scored the lone goal of the first period to give the Knights a 1-0 lead over the Rangers. Namestnikov directed a shot past Kitchener goaltender Mike Morrison at 5:09 to mark his 30th goal of the season.
Rangers’ Matt Tipoff scored his 25th of the season off the post to the stick side of London’s Igor Bobkov at 8:44 of the second period to tie the score 1-1. Jerry D’Amigo buried an Akeson feed at 10:16 to put Kitchener up 2-1. Akeson tied the Rangers individual regular season assist record of 83 with his helper on D’Amigo’s goal. The record was set during the 1976-77 season by Dwight Foster.
Dylan MacEachern scored two quick goals close to the midway mark of the third period to give London a 3-2 lead. 45-seconds later, D’Amigo answered back with a backhander that went in off the post to tie the game at 3-3. Akeson once again helped out on the goal and set a new record for the Rangers. Matt Rupert was quick to reply for London at the 10:37 mark to make it 4-3 for the Knights.
