Who Wore It Best? Jersey #23

Due to popular demand, the Petes are excited to bring back Who Wore It Best? Every Wednesday, fans will have an opportunity to cast their vote to decide which Petes best represents their respective jersey number from 22 – 99.  The top four players to wear each number will be showcased every week and Petes fans will vote for who they believe wore it best!

Dave Duerden played for the Petes from 1994-97 tallying 204 points as a left winger across 198 games with the Petes. The Oshawa native was an integral part of the ’96 crew that saw the clinch of a J.Ross Robertson Cup, and Memorial Cup hosted on home soil. He was selected by the Florida Panthers at the 1955 NHL Entry Draft and played eight seasons across the IHL, AHL, and ECHL.

Daniel Ryder is considered one of the most impressive Petes of all-time! The Newfoundland native was part of the Petes organization for four years from 2003-07. He had two consecutive seasons at 82 points and was a part of the team in 2006 that won a J. Ross Robertson Cup championship and was awarded the Wayne Gretzky 99 award as MVP of that OHL playoffs. Ryder was selected in the 3rd round, 74th overall by the Calgary Flames as part of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Following his time in Peterborough, he would play two seasons in the AHL with Quad City and Providence with a brief stint in the ECHL.

Rob Murray is often described as being one of the toughest Petes of all-time. This centerman hails from Toronto and played for the Petes from 1984-87. Across three seasons, he tallied 63 goals and 64 assists and sat in the penalty box for 484 minutes. After the Petes, Murray made a significant name for himself in the AHL and became a staple with the Springfield Falcons from 1994 to 2003. Following his playing career, Murray went behind the bench and was an assistant coach with the AHL’s Providence Bruins from 2003-2011, head coach with the ECHL’s Alaska Aces from 2011-2017 and as of 2017 has held the title of Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations with the Tulsa Oilers. In January 2017, Murray was inducted into the American Hockey League’s Hall of Fame.

Geoff Ingram is a Bobcaygeon native who played for the Petes from 1987-90. During his time with the Petes, he collected 117 points and was part of the group that won the J. Ross Robertson Cup in 1989. Following his time with the maroon and white, Ingram played for the Brock University Badgers and was inducted into the Lindsay Sports Hall of Fame in 2018 for his talent on the ice, in addition to fastball, golf, football and tennis.
