Petes drop heart breaker to Bulls
The Peterborough Petes dropped a heart breaker of a game tonight at the hands of the Belleville Bulls.
Thee Petes jumped out to a 3-2 first period lead after a quick power play goal by Keaton Turkiewicz gave the Bulls a 1-0 lead at 1:58. Kenzie Sheppard got the Petes on the board at 4:23 scoring a power play marker of his own when he tipped a Derek Holden shot in front of Bulls netminder Mike Murphy. The Bulls restored their lead on another power play marker at 9:44 by Matt Beleskey, however the Petes would battle and score yet another power play goal at 12:57 when Branislav Rehus chipped in a John Armstrong shot that snuck through the legs of Murphy and sat in the crease. The Petes took their first lead of the hockey game at 18:58 of the first when Pat Daley scored his first of two on the night to send the teams to the dressing room with the Petes leading 3-2.
Daley would pick up where he left off just 2:15 into the second scoring his 17 of the season. The Bulls tied the game at 7:37 of the middle frame on Andrew Self’s first of two on the night. Self scored his second of the game at 12:52 to knot the game at 4 heading to the dressing room.
The third period looked like it was going to head to overtime until Shawn Matthias scored his first of the evening short handed at 18:23. Matthias capped off the night with an empty net marked with just 3 seconds remaining to give the Bulls a 6-4 victory.
Next action for the Petes is Saturday night when they play host to Buckhorn native Justin Larson and the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors.
