Diary at Under 18 Tournament
The Peterborough Petes have three links to the Team Canada Under 18 team playing in Fargo North Dakota this week. Forward Zack Kassian, Trainer Brian Miller and Alumni Ron Tugnutt is the goaltending coach. Below is a jornal written by Petes Trainer and Head Equipment Manager for Team Canada Brian Miller from the first week at a training camp taking place in Minnesota.
April 1
It was an early rise at3am to get to the airport in Toronto to catch my flight to Minnesota for the pre tournament training camp. Two van rides and two2 plane rides later I arrived at Marriucci arena in Minnesoata. It was then time to unpack all the Team Canada equipment and set up the dressing getting ready for the arrival of the players in the morning. Later in the day we had a staff meeting with Hockey Canada.
April 2
Day two brought more work on the dressing room and the arrival of several players followed by a light evening practice.
April 3 and 4th.
The final players arrived and we got down to the task at hand. The players got into a routine. School study sessions, meetings with coaches and practice time, followed by team building functions.
April 5
Game day. Our first exibition game Vs.Finland. A game to get things started. Lots of adjustments, excitement and an Over Time win.
April 6
Morning practice followed by school study sessions and meetings with coaches. That night the team went to the Minnesota Twins home opener on MLB opening day and the final season for the Metro Dome.
April 7th
Game day. Our second and final exibition game Vs. Slovakia. Following the game we packed up all our equipment and moved to Fargo,ND where the World Under 18 Championship will be played.
