Cornel and Garlent Finalists for 2015-16 OHL Awards

Two Petes players have been honoured as finalists for 2015/16 OHL awards. Hunter Garlent and Eric Cornel could take home some hardware at the annual OHL awards on June 7.

Garlent is a finalist for the Leo Lalonde Memorial Trophy (Overage Player of the Year) and the Red Tilson Trophy (Most Outstanding Player of the Year). Cornel is a finalist for the William Hanley Trophy (Most Sportsmanlike Player of the Year).

Garlent, in his fifth OHL season, set career highs in goals and points, amassing 40 goals, 47 assists, and 87 points along with a +26 rating. He played 292 career OHL games, and was signed by the Adirondack Thunder, the Calgary Flames’ ECHL affiliate, earlier this week.

Cornel, who served as captain in his fourth OHL campaign, also had a career year. The Buffalo Sabres prospect played in all 68 games this year, netting 27 goals, 56 assists, and 83 points along with a +19. The Kemptville, Ontario native has signed an entry-level contract with the Sabres, and is currently playing for their AHL affiliate in Rochester.
