Pagé Scores as Petes Fall 2-1 to 67’s at PMC
The Peterborough Petes were back in action on Sunday Afternoon as they hosted the Ottawa 67’s at the PMC for the first time this season. The Petes looked to take a 4-0 season series lead with a win on home ice. After improving his own career record to 4-0 against his hometown 67’s in Ottawa on Friday, Zach Bowen got his second straight start in net for Peterborough.
With the puck dropped and the period underway, the 67’s got off to an early start, outshooting the Petes 5-1 in the opening minutes. As the Petes battled back, neither team could gain an edge as the period approached the midway point. Ottawa was the first to find the back of the net. Caden Kelly’s shot put the 67’s up 1-0 at the 9:24 mark in the opening frame. As the Petes looked to tie the game, Jonathan Melee and Braydon McCallum would get great looks on breakaways, but 67’s netminder Max Donoso stood tall to help Ottawa take their one-goal lead into the first intermission.
A back-and-forth start to the second saw both teams with power play opportunities early. Petes goalie Zach Bowen kept the game close with solid goaltending, turning away multiple Ottawa chances. Halfway through the period, a 67’s turnover at the blue line sprung the Petes offense on a three-on-one. Quinton Pagé left no doubt as he buried the tic-tac-toe passing play deep in the 67’s net to tie the game 1-1. Quinn Binnie picked up an assist on the goal, marking his first point in Maroon and White.
Just as the Petes looked to be taking control of the game, Ottawa would find their second on a passing play of their own. As the period came to a close, Ryder McIntyre’s shot would get past the Ottawa goalie Max Donoso but slide just wide of the net as the 67’s took the 2-1 lead into the third period.
As the third period began, the Petes came out of the dressing room firing. The flurry of offensive pressure saw Peterborough get multiple quality chances early in the period. Still down by one, the Petes desperately pushed, hoping to find a tying goal for the home fans. Unfortunately, they would be unable to beat Donoso and Ottawa won the game by a score of 2-1.
Quinton Pagé led the way for the Petes with a goal. Chase Lefebvre picked up an assist, while Quinn Binnie also had an assist for his first point as a Pete. Zach Bowen stopped 26/28 in the loss.
The Petes are back in action on Thursday, December 14, when they host the Kingston Frontenacs for their annual Christmas Game. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m at the PMC.
