Bryant Scores Twice Against Former Team as Petes Beat IceDogs in Overtime
It was a Sunday matinee at the PMC on December 1, as the Peterborough Petes hosted the Niagara IceDogs for Faith and Family Day presented by Life 100.3. The Petes were wearing their alternate black jerseys for the first time since beating North Bay on November 23. Former IceDogs Captain Gavin Bryant was taking on his old team for the first time since being traded to the Petes in October. Easton Rye was back in net for the Maroon and White, after first-year goaltender Masen Johnston got the start on Friday in Ottawa.
After a scoreless first 10, Niagara would take a quick 2-0 lead after scoring back-to-back goals under a minute apart. After shaking off the goals, the Petes got to work, controlling the play for the rest of the period. Four minutes later, the hard work paid off when Carson Cameron scored his second goal in two games to cut the IceDogs lead to one. The game stayed 2-1 heading into the break.
Just under seven minutes into the second period, Niagara would add to their lead on the power play, making it 3-1 with just over half of the game left to play. A late double minor by the IceDogs would spark the Petes offence in the dying minutes of the period. It all started when former Niagara Captain Gavin Bryant went end-to-end, scoring a highlight reel goal to once again cut the lead to 3-2. Two minutes later, Bryant fed Quinton Pagé who scored to tie the game at 3-3 heading into the final frame.
After a scoreless third, the game would go to overtime. Just 54 seconds into the extra period, Bryant capped off a successful first game against his former team, scoring to win the game 4-3.
Gavin Bryant led the way for the Petes, scoring twice and adding an assist in his first game against his former team. Quinton Pagé scored and added two assists, while Martin Matejicek had two assists of his own. Carson Cameron scored his second goal in two games, as Aiden Young and Nico Addy each picked up an assist. Easton Rye stopped 33/36 for his second win of the season.
