On Saturday, March 8, the Peterborough Petes were in the Nation’s Capital to wrap up the season series with the Ottawa 67’s. With a win, Peterborough would cap off a perfect week, after beating the 67’s 4-3 on Thursday night at the PMC.
Late in the second period, the 67’s were in control of the game, up 2-0 with a heavy lead in the shots department. Desperate to get on the board before the break, Caden Taylor hit Quinton Pagé in front. Pagé beat Collin MacKenzie on the backhand, getting the Petes within one heading into the final frame.
After Matthew Mayich made it 3-1 for Ottawa just a minute into the third, it looked like Peterborough would be in tough to get back into the game. Pressing hard in the offensive zone, Brennan Faulkner scored to get the Petes back in it. Faulkner’s goal was his third in three games and cut the 67’s lead to 3-2. With under seven minutes left in the period, Peterborough would go to their second power play of the game. Using the man advantage, Gavin Bryant set up Edmonton Oilers prospect and former 67, Brady Stonehouse, who blasted a one-timer past MacKenzie, his former teammate, to tie the game up.
After 60 minutes, the game would go to overtime. With neither side able to win it in the extra frame, a shootout would decide the outcome. As he has done multiple times this year, Caden Taylor shot first for the Petes, scoring five-hole to give Peterborough the advantage. Zach Bowen shut the door from their, stopping all three Ottawa shooters to secure the 4-3 win.
Zach Bowen led the way for Peterborough, stopping 34/37 and all three shootout attempts for the win. Quinton Pagé, Brennan Faulkner, and Brady Stonehouse scored, while Caden Taylor, Braydon McCallum, Francis Parish, Aiden Young, Gavin Bryant, and Jonathan Melee all picked up an assist. Caden Taylor scored the lone goal in the shootout to give the Petes the win.
