Petes Fall to 67’s
J.R. Avon recorded his fifth multi-point game of the season while Justin DeZoete recorded two assists in a road loss to the Ottawa 67’s on Friday night.
After a tough loss last night, the Petes took a little bit to find momentum and shake off their bus legs. The Ottawa 67’s, who lost their last seven games, took advantage of a tired Petes squad.
Near the seven-minute mark of the opening period, a 67 fired a shot on Tye Austin, which rebounded in front of his crease. With bodies flying and chaos ensuring, Ottawa Senators’ 10th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Tyler Boucher, jumped on the loose puck to put the home team up 1-0.
Moments later, Justin DeZoete sent a defensive zone, exit pass to J.R. Avon who walked into enemy territory and unleashes a missile to even up the score. The Philadelphia Flyers prospect picked up his 25th goal of the season, and DeZoete extended his point streak to three games.

As the period was winding down, Ottawa’s point leader Vinzenz Rohrer, sent a cross-ice pass to Luca Pinelli in Peterborough’s zone and the Stoney Creek native wired his 12th of the season to give the bad guys a 2-1 lead. Shots were 17-2 in favour of Ottawa as the teams headed into the locker room.
Early in the second period, Ottawa forced a turnover in Peterborough’s end which resulted in Jack Matier netting his 9th of the season to give the 67’s a 3-1 lead.
Six seconds later, a devastating hit was laid on a Petes defenceman, which resulted in broken glass between the benches and on the ice. Following a 30+ minute long delay of clean up and a dry scrape, players returned to their benches to resume the game.
Unfortunately for the Petes, the 67’s scored five more goals in the remaining of the second period. Boucher scored his second of the night while Alex Johnston, Thomas Johnston (x2), and Anthony Costantini piled on the maroon and white.
In the final frame, Samuel Mayer was tripped in his end, putting the Petes’ powerplay unit on the ice. On the man advantage, DeZoete sent a pass to Avon who deked out Ottawa’s netminder Max Donoso, but it was Chase Stillman who put the puck past the goal line. The New Jersey Devils prospect tapped in the loose puck for his 17th goal of the season.

Moments later, Vsevolod Gaidamak add salt on the womb as his shot snuck past Michael Simpson.
As the final buzzer was about to sound, Joe Carroll potted the puck five-hole on Donoso and Avon sniped his second of the night to cut Ottawa’s lead, 9-4.
