Petes Look to End Week on a High Note Against Rival 67’s
The Peterborough Petes are back at home tonight for their third game in three days after playing in Kitchener last night and hosting the Flint Firebirds at the PMC on Thursday. After a strong performance on Thursday that would see them take down the CHL’s number eight ranked team, ending the Firebirds 12-game point streak, the Petes were a few men short on Friday night in Kitchener due to sickness. They battled hard at the AUD, but would ultimately fall to a strong Rangers team by a score of 6-3.
Tonight, the Petes host the Ottawa 67’s for Faith and Family night presented by Life 100.3, in support of Youth Unlimited. Fans are encouraged to stick around post game for a special presentation on the videoboard featuring Toronto Maple Leaf and former Pete, Nick Robertson, as well as a couple of songs performed by Jason Dunn. The post game event will be hosted by longtime Petes Chaplain Tim Coles.
On the ice, Peterborough will be looking to improve to 2-0 on the season against the rival 67’s, after beating them 2-1 at home in October. The Petes continue to be one of the OHL’s strongest teams at home this season, sporting a 11-3-0-1 record at the Memorial Centre so far this year. Overage forward Matthew Soto continues to impress, playing at just under a point a game. Soto extended his point streak to six games (6GP, 2G, 6A, 8P) last night in Kitchener, bringing his season total to 28 in 29 games, six off of his total from last year. NHL draft eligible forward Adam Levac also continued his hot hand this season with a goal last night. His 24 points has more than doubled his total of 10 from last season in half of the games.
Ottawa comes into tonight’s game as the number one team in the OHL’s power rankings and the number five ranked team in Canada. Their success this season has mainly come from their goaltending, with both reigning OHL Rookie of the Month Ryder Fetterolf and Jaeden Nelson sitting near the top of the league in both save percentage and goals against average. Import forward Jasper Kuhta and OA Cooper Foster lead the 67’s offence, with 27 and 26 points a piece. Defenceman Kohyn Eshkawkogan has been a force on the blueline this season, sitting second in the OHL in assists by a defenceman with 22.
