Akil Thomas Signs One-Year Extension With LA Kings
The Los Angeles Kings announced that they have signed former Peterborough Petes forward Akil Thomas to a one-year, two-way contract.
Thomas was acquired just beyond the halfway point of the 2019-20 season by the Petes from the Niagara IceDogs. Prior to the trade, Thomas tallied 15 goals and 29 assists for 44 points. After being traded to the Petes, Thomas scored 9 goals and 31 assists for 40 points in 22 games with the Petes.
Thomas was drafted in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft by the Kings in the second round, 51st overall. Since being drafted, Thomas has played 93 games at the professional level, 40 in 2020-21, 40 in 2021-22 and 13 in 2022-23, all with the Kings’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Ontario Reign. Last season, Thomas totaled 5 goals and 3 assists for 8 points in those 13 games, before his season got derailed due to injury. Over his entire tenure with the Reign, Thomas has scored 24 goals, and added 23 assists, for 47 points in 93 games.
“Yeah it’s been a few tough years for me due to injury so I’m really thankful and looking forward to another opportunity to prove myself. I’m really excited.” noted Thomas.
