Who Wore It Best? Jersey #14
In celebration of the new year 2021, Petes fans are called to cast their vote to decide which Petes best represents their respective jersey number from 1 – 21. The top four players to wear each number will be showcased every day for 20 consecutive days and Petes fans will vote for who they believe wore it best!
Keith Acton played for the Petes from 1975-78 and was considered an assisting machine. He registered 121 points in the 1976-77 season and 128 points in the 1977-78 season. He played 1,000 games across 15 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota North Stars, Edmonton Oilers, Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals and New York Islanders. He coached in the NHL from 1994-2015 as an Associate/Assistant Coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Philadelphia Flyers, New York Rangers, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Edmonton Oilers.
Former captain Austin Watson played for the Petes from 2009-2011 and was drafted by the Nashville Predators in the first round, 18th overall in the 2010 NHL draft. He played for the Predators from 2012-2020 before being traded to the Ottawa Senators. He also represented Team USA at the 2012 World Junior Championship.
John Druce is another Peterborough lad who suited up for the Petes from 1983-86. He was drafted in 1985 by the Washington Capitals in the second round. In the 1990 playoffs, he exploded for 14 goals (a club record until 2018) and helped guided the Capitals to their first conference finals appearance, until 2018. He held most goals by a Caps player in playoffs until Alexander Ovechkin broke it.
Bob Gainey is Peterborough’s pride and joy. He played two seasons with the Petes and went on to become one of the most celebrated figures in hockey. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992 and in 2017, Gainey was named one of the ‘100 Greatest NHL Players’ in history. He won the Frank J. Selke Trophy from 1978-1981, and the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1979. He’s a six-time Stanley Cup champion;1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1986 (as player), 1999 (as GM). He was a tenured coach and GM (he saw the North Starts move from Minnesota to Dallas).
* Predetermined players that fans are voting on have been selected from 1956 – 2019 (2019 is the player’s final season with the Petes).
* Many of these players have worn multiple jersey numbers while playing for the Petes, these players will not show up to be voted on for each number they have worn. They will only show up and be made available to vote for on one of their Petes jersey numbers.
