Former Scout Wins Stanley Cup With Penguins
As Casey Torres took his turn hoisting the Stanley Cup in a sky-top room overlooking Nashville early Monday morning, he felt the exuberance of what has been an incredible first year for him as a scout for the National Hockey League’s Pittsburgh Penguins.
Prior to joining the Penguins, Torres was a member of the Petes’ scouting staff for two seasons.
“It has been the best 10 months professionally of my life hands down,” Torres said Tuesday morning from his Kingston home after travelling back from Tennessee’s capital city.
The Penguins players and staff, in a victory party that flipped from Sunday night into the wee hours of Monday morning in Nashville, celebrated the team’s Stanley Cup championship, which came from Pittsburgh’s 2-0 win in Game 6 over the Nashville Predators. Pittsburgh won the best-of-seven finals, 4-2.

“It was an incredible fun night. Just an unbelievable time. You run on two and a half hours sleep but you felt like a million bucks,” Torres said.
When Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby carried the Stanley Cup into dressing room, every player, every management person and all of the people who work behind the scenes for the Penguins were able to do the traditional sip of champagne from the Cup.
Actually, Torres did it twice.
