Otters weather Storm in 3-2 win
Erie, PA – Ramis Sadikov made 40 saves and stopped two shots in the shootout as he led the Erie Otters to a 3-2 win over the Guelph Storm Wednesday night at Tullio Arena.
After a scoreless first period, each team scored a goal in the second period. Cairns put the Otters on the board 6:17 into the second as he whacked in a great pass at the right circle from Connor Brown for his 10th goal of the season.
The goal was matched by Guelph’s Kyle Pereira a minute and 24 seconds later. The score would remain tied at one going into the third.
Brown scored on the power play 4:48 into the third, hammering home his 21st goal of the season at the top of the crease off of a pass by Cairns to put the Otters back in front.
The Storm tied the game exactly five minutes later with a power play goal of their own by Hunter Garlent.
Sadikov frustrated the Storm through most of the the game, and did his best work in the third period as he stopped 18 of 19 Storm shots, including a robbery with glove on Zack Mitchell in the final seconds to force overtime.
In the shootout, the Otters received goals from Dane Fox and Sondre Olden, while the Storm countered with tallies from Francis Menard and Jason Dickinson. Cairns put the Otters in front during the fourth round by roofing a backhand over Garret Sparks. Sadikov sealed the win by stopping Garlent with the right pad.
