Otters Tame Bulls 6-3 in Port Perry
Port Perry, Ontario – The Erie Otters bounced back Saturday night as the tamed the Belleville Bulls 6-3 in an exhibition game held at a sold out Scugog Arena in Port Perry.
Nick Betz continued his strong play this preseason as he got the party going in the first period scoring two goals in under a minute. Patrick Murphy connected with Betz during a delayed penalty to get the Otters on the board. Then, shortly after the ensuing faceoff, Betz streaked down the left wing side and ripped a shot past Bulls net minder Charlie Graham to put the Otters up 2-0. Betz wasn’t done in the first as he helped to set up Quentin Maksimovich for his first of the preseason to put Erie up three by the end of the period.
After a brief delay due to losing power after the arena was struck by lightning, Erie was back at in the second period. Nick Betz completed his hat trick in the second period on a beautiful pass from TJ Fergus to set up a backdoor tap-in. Moments later the Otters went to work on the power play. Darren Raddysh worked the puck to an open Alex DeBrincat in the slot who wired home his first of the night putting the Otters up by five. Belleville bounced back late in the second period netting a pair late to draw within three goals.
The Otters power play continued to play hot in the third as DeBrincat netted his second of the night with the man advantage. Erie rolled on to a 6-3 win to improve their exhibition record to 2-0-0-1. The Otters will travel to London Friday night for an exhibition tilt with the Knights.
