Otters fall to London
The Otters could not overcome an early three-goal deficit as they fell 3-1 to the London Knights at Budweiser Gardens in London, Ontario. It was the second of four preseason games for Erie.
London took immediate control 50 seconds into the game when Robert Thomas netted one behind Otters goaltender Devin Williams. Olli Juvolevi scored for the Knights later in the first, followed just over a minute later by Jack Hidi scoring one of his own, extending London’s lead to 3-0 after the first period.
The Otters would respond in the second period when Quentin Maksimovich tallied Erie’s only goal of the game with assists from Patrick Fellows and Riley MacRae.
The game would end 3-1 in regulation, but both squads played an additional five-minute, three-on-three overtime exhibition period. The Otters will play an overtime period following regulation of their remaining preseason games. All OHL overtime periods will be played three-on-three this season.
The Otters will be back in action versus London tomorrow, September 19, at 7:00 in Stratford, Ontario. They will conclude their preseason schedule Sunday, September 20, against Hamilton at 2:00. Erie will begin its regular season Thursday, September 24, at the Windsor Spitfires.
