Hounds Hand Erie Their First Playoff Loss
It was a goaltenders duel in game three as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds edged out the Erie Otters 3-2 with a goal in the final 30 seconds. Brandon Halverson logged 25 saves in his first win over the Otters in the 2015-16 season, while Devin Williams recorded 19 stops.
Kyle Pettit scored the lone goal in the first period to give the Otters the all-important first goal, assists from Nick Betz and Mitchell Byrne.
The second period flew by, but late in the period the Soo entered the Erie zone on a 2-on-0 as Boris Katchouk feed a pass to Morgan Frost who buried the Greyhounds first goal.
Bobby MacIntyre snuck a puck short side past Williams to give the Soo the 2-1 lead. Following as Greyhounds turnover Dylan Strome capitalized by scoring his seventh of the playoffs to knot the game at two. As the clock ticked closer to zero MacIntyre scored his second of the game to give the Soo the 3-2 lead with under 30 seconds remaining. Despite pulling the goalie the Otters could not score an equalizer as they suffered their first loss of the playoffs.
Game four is set for Wednesday at 7:07 p.m. in Sault Ste. Marie as the Greyhounds seek to tie the series at two.
