Erie takes Cernak and Mayenschein at Import Draft
The Erie Otters selected Erik Cernak with the 54th pick in the first round of the 2015 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.
Cernak, a 6’3”, 211 pound defenseman, is a native of Kosice, Slovakia. He recorded five goals and 13 points with HC Kosice during the 2014-15 season. The right handed shooting defender was selected by the Los Angeles Kings 43rd overall in the second round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
The 18-year-old suited up for Slovakia in six games at the World Junior Championships this past year, and tallied two assists.
With their second round pick, the Erie Otters selected Jakob Mayenschein with the 114th selection.
Mayenschein, a 5’11”, 167 pound center, is a native of Landshut, Germany. The 18-year-old recorded 14 goals and 35 points with his U19 Landshut team, and also appeared in 24 games with EV Landshut in the DEL2, part of Germany’s professional hockey league.
The left handed shooter played with Germany’s under-18 team each of the last two world junior championships, recording three goals and five points in the 12 games played.
