ERIE RECEIVES COMMITMENT FROM BRUCE MCDONALD
Erie, Pennsylvania – As the Erie Otters prepare to host the Hamilton Bulldogs and Saginaw Spirit this weekend for the Preseason kickoff, General Manager Dave Brown announces the second commitment of the day for the team – Bruce McDonald.
McDonald, a 17-year-old Forward from Ottawa, ON commits to the Otters after being selected by the team 41st Overall (3rd Round) in the 2022 Ontario Hockey League U18 Priority Selection Draft. The 5’11, 172 lbs. left-handed shooter was drafted after spending the 2021-22 season spending time in three different leagues, but most notably in the HEO U18 league with the Renfrew Wolves U18 AAA. As a Wolf, McDonald was a point-plus-per-game player, accruing 44 points (16G+28A) in 32 games, and an additional six points (1G+5A) in the team’s five playoff games. After spending a week with the team at their 2022 Training Camp, McDonald had high regards for the organization.
“Training Camp was great. The [veteran players] did a fantastic job welcoming all of the new guys into a great environment, and the coaching staff were very organized in every stage of camp. The compete level was through the roof, everyone was performing at their best. It made for a very competitive camp.” said McDonald, “I’m super excited for the opportunity the Otters have given me. They’re such a prestigious organization, which makes it even more exciting. It truly does mean a lot joining the Erie Otters, and I can’t wait to start. I’ve worked really hard for this, and it’s only the beginning.”
Director of Hockey Operations Scott Grieve recounts on the journey of McDonald to become an Erie Otter.
“Bruce is a player who jumped out to us last year in HEO U18 AAA. He has had a steep development curve over the past year or so, and we feel like he is just scratching the surface.” said Grieve, “We are happy to welcome him and his family to the Otters, and look forward to working with him as he continues to develop.”
The Otters officially welcome Bruce to the Flagship City, and look forward to seeing his skills and abilities grow and develop with the organization as the preseason begins.
