Erie Perfect on Road Trip, Beat Kingston 7-2
Kingston, ON – The Erie Otters completed their longest road trip of the season thus far, by beating the Kingston Frontenacs 7-2 at the Rogers K-Rock Centre Sunday afternoon, going a perfect 3-0 on the journey.
The Otters came out with a purpose Sunday afternoon, as they were taking on a rising Frontenacs team that had won five in a row. Dylan Strome opened the scoring at 15:32 of the first after putting home a Spencer Abraham misfire. Just 49 seconds later, Connor Brown extended the lead to two, beating Matt Hahalak over the glove for his 20th of the year.
The second period was filled with special teams play, as the Otters found themselves down a man most of the period. It didn’t stop their offense as Dane Fox extended his goal scoring streak to seven games just 57 seconds into the second period on the power play. Fox was then shown the gate after he was assessed a slew footing major at 4:51. Erie killed the five minute power play and held Kingston to just one-for-six on the day with the extra man.
Connor McDavid poked home a puck in the paint after a Darren Raddysh point shot for his 12th of the season. After the play Jake Evans took a double minor for head butting, putting Erie short for four minutes. During the kill, Connor Brown beat Mahalak long range over the blocker side for his third shorthanded goal of the season, and second tally on the night. That would be all for Mahalak, as Lucas Peressini finished the game in relief. Spencer Watson broke Oscar Dansk’s shutout bid late in the second period with Erie taking a 5-1 lead into the intermission.
Andre Burakovsky and Travis Dermott added some extra insurance in the third period, giving the Otters a 7-1 lead. Evan McEneny beat Dansk late on the power play to bring the score to its final of 7-2.
Oscar Dansk stopped 29 shots on the way to his 14th win of the year, and has only allowed three goals in his last four starts. Erie continues to roll as they have extended their winning streak to seven.
The Otters will travel home to take on the Mississauga Steelheads in their final matchup of the season Wednesday night at the Erie Insurance Arena.
