LAST TIME OUT
Friday’s matchup against the Barrie Colts started slowly, with both teams trading possession and limited scoring chances. Barrie generated the first real threat in the seventh minute, but could not finish their chances. Erie struggled with discipline early, giving up three penalties, though their penalty kill was strong. Gabriel Frasca sparked the offense with a few short-handed attempts; however, the first period ended scoreless, with Barrie leading 11–6 in shots.
The second period started with Barrie on the front foot, as Cole Beaudoin scored just 15 seconds in to give the Colts a lead. Erie regained momentum after the early setback, controlling play and creating opportunities. Still, Barrie struck again late in the period as Carter Lowe scored to make it 2–0 Colts heading into the third.
Erie responded in the final period with Ritter Coombs cutting the lead to 2–1, followed by Dylan Edwards tying the game at 2–2 off a Frasca assist. The Otters dominated possession in the third, while Erliden made 31 saves on 33 shots, forcing overtime. Despite breakaway chances for Dec, Agrette, and Frasca, neither team scored in the five-minute OT, sending the game to a shootout. Erie fell 3–2 as Kashawn Aitcheson and Emil Hemming converted for Barrie, though the Otters outshot the Colts 40–33.
Saturday’s matchup against the Sarnia Sting mirrored Friday’s slow start, with both teams struggling to generate scoring chances in the first period. Despite four combined power-play opportunities, neither side could convert, leaving the opening frame scoreless at 0–0.
The game picked up in the second period. Alex Misiak opened the scoring early, finishing a clean power-play sequence from Agrette and Frazer to give Erie a 1–0 lead. Sarnia answered midway through the period when Jordan Bax scored on a play the Otters initially believed was offside; after a lengthy review, the goal stood, tying the game at 1–1. Erie responded with sustained pressure, and Dylan Edwards restored the lead less than two minutes from the end of the period, putting the Otters ahead 2–1 going into the third.
Erie dominated the final frame, extending their advantage. Edwards scored again, his second of the night and 11th of the season, to make it 3–1, before Bax added a late goal for Sarnia. Jake Murray sealed the 4–2 victory with an empty-netter. Goaltender Noah Erliden played a key role, stopping 24 of 26 shots, helping Erie finish the weekend with a strong performance on both offense and defense.
Bears, Beers, & Between the Benches!
A lot of action packed into one week, the Otters will kick things off with Bears and Beers night (pres. By Rebich Investments on Thanksgiving eve! The first 1,500 fans will receive a free Otters Apron (pres. by Rebich Investments). The following game, Saturday the 29th, will be Between the Benches night (pres. by Rebich Investments) as the Otters match up against Peterborough to close November play. Erie then travels to Kitchener to open the month of December with a rare Tuesday night tilt.
WHO TO WATCH
Dylan Edwards has been on fire recently. After his standout performance this weekend, tying the close game against Barrie, and scoring two goals in the Otters’ win over Sarnia, Edwards now leads the team in points as he is tied for most goals on the team with 11 and second overall in assists with 14. Edwards has been a major contributor to the Otters’ recent success and will be a keystone player on the team going forward.
Noah Erliden is another name, earning his well-deserved accolades. Erliden put up 55 saves on the weekend, his dominant performances in the crease taking the Otters to overtime and a shootout on Friday and helped earn the win at home the following evening against Sarnia. Erliden’s active role in net sets him apart from other goaltenders in the league, his athleticism making him a standout player on this Erie roster.
KNOW THE FOE
The Brampton Steelheads are 9-12-1-1 this season, struggling to earn wins on the road. Their last game against Sudbury would be a dominant performance, besting the Wolves 8-2 and taking them into this matchup with Erie on a high note. The Steelheads’ breakout player this season, Jakub Fibigr, is having a standout performance as compared to last season, where he finished with just three goals. This season, Fibigr has scored 8 goals and earned 12 assists, putting him as the points leader for Brampton.
The Petes are on a bit of a hot streak recently, only losing one of their past five games, and having high-scoring games, one against Brampton and the other against Kingston. Peterborough is 14-8-1-1 this season, dominant at home, and splitting about even on the road. The Petes are led offensively by Adam Novotny, who has earned 14 goals and 12 assists on the season, putting him at 26 points.
Kitchener has had a strong start to the season and due to Guelph being awarded the 2026 Memorial Cup, could even have more incentive to add and take a shot at a run this season. Christian Humphreys has led the way offensively for the Rangers this season. A team with stars at the top of their lineup and plenty of depth, this Midwest Division clash will provide a tough test for the Otters.
