Erie Acquires Joseph Murdaca from Mississauga
Erie, Pennsylvania – Erie Otters General Manager Dave Brown announced this morning that the team has acquired goaltender Joseph Murdaca from the Mississauga Steelheads in exchange for a conditional 14th round pick in 2018.
Murdaca, originally drafted in the tenth round of the 2014 OHL Priority Selection by the Saginaw Spirit, has appeared in 13 OHL games in his career, all with the Mississauga Steelheads. The Niagara Falls, Ontario native most recently spent time with the Trenton Golden Hawks of the OJHL, posting a 5-2-0-0 record with a 2.15 goals against average and a .923 save percentage.
The 18-year-old goaltender was traded from the Saginaw Spirit on December 14th, 2015, along with a ninth-round pick, to the Mississauga Steelheads for Cameron Zanussi and a fourth-round pick. In his OHL career, Murdaaca holds a record of 2-2-0-1, with a 3.57 goals against average and a .867 save percentage during parts of two seasons. In 2016, the 6’3”, 186-pound goaltender won his only start with the Steelheads, stopping 29 of 32 shots against the North Bay Battalion on November 6th.
