Top Dogs of the Past: Featuring Andrew Agozzino
IceDogs alumni Andrew Agozzino was with the team for five years between 2007-2012. He put up a career-high in points in his last year tallying 88 in 67 games. He later went on to win the Eastern Conference in the same year. Agozzino went undrafted during his draft year but was later on signed to a contract by the St. Louis Blues. In the following few years, he was signed by a variety of other teams, including Colorado and Pittsburgh. After hopping between teams, playing in both the AHL and NHL, Agozzino was most recently signed by the Ottawa Senators in 2021, where he currently plays for their AHL affiliate, the Belleville Senators.
We recently had the chance to catch up with Andrew and ask him about his time with the IceDogs along with his career.
How did your time with the IceDogs help you transition to being a professional?
My time with the IceDogs played a big part in being prepared for professional hockey. I had had great coaches and staff that helped me both on and off the ice.
Recall your favourite memory/moment from your IceDogs’ experience
There are many great moments and memories from my time with the Icedogs. But in my final season winning the Eastern Conference championship on home ice sticks. It was such a special team and the way the city and community supported us during the entire playoffs was something I will always remember.
What experiences that you had with the IceDogs have you been able to draw upon so far in your professional career?
I think those long playoffs runs we had and all the important games we played is something I have drawn on as a professional.
What was it like playing in Niagara regarding the fans and energy of the city/organization?
Playing in Niagara is to this day some of the best years of my life. So many great people that I became life long friends with not only on the team but also in the community. The support the team receives makes every game night in Niagara special. I still spend time in Niagara every summer and it will always be a special part of my life.
