Remembrance Day Jersey Auction Raises Over $4500!
The Niagara IceDogs have completed their 2014 Remembrance Day game jersey auction, with the auction of the specially designed jerseys raising a total of $4546 for the Juno Beach Centre! The top fundraising jerseys were Brandon Hope ($475), Aaron Haydon ($400), Brent Moran ($375) and Mikkel Aagaard ($375).
The auction was done as part of the Ontario Hockey League and Niagara IceDogs partnership with the Juno Beach Centre to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of D-Day and the Normandy Landings.
The Niagara IceDogs wore the jerseys during their 2-0 home win over the Sarnia Sting on November 8th. The jerseys were designed to pay tribute to Canada’s brave Second World War veterans, with each featuring imagery from the D-Day Landings on Juno Beach on June 6, 1944.
The $4546 in proceeds from the auction will support the Juno Beach Centre, Canada’s only museum on the D-Day Landing Beaches in Normandy, France. The funds raised through this initiative will support future commemoration and educational programming.
“We are grateful for generous support from the Ontario Hockey League for this initiative,” said Don Cooper, President of theJuno Beach Centre. “D-Day was a pivotal moment in Canadian history and we’re thrilled to work with the League to honour and pay tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice 70 years ago.”
The Juno Beach Centre is Canada’s only museum on the D-Day Landing Beaches in Normandy, founded by Second World War veterans and volunteers in 2003 as a lasting testament to the Canadian contribution on D-Day and the Normandy Invasion.
