IceDogs Take Down Wolves in 2nd Straight Victory!
Saturday night presented an opportunity for the Niagara IceDogs to secure a perfect weekend as they played host to the visiting Sudbury Wolves at the Meridian Centre. The IceDogs entered the game with a chance to build on the momentum generated as a result of Friday’s 5-1 drubbing of the Barrie Colts.
The ‘Dogs set the tone early on in the first period as Ben Jones tallied his fifth of the season to open the scoring at 7:12. Linemates Johnny Corneil and Hayden Davis picked up assists on the goal. The IceDogs penalty kill went to work twice in the opening frame and continued to impress as they went a perfect 2 for 2. As per usual, goaltender Stephen Dhillon was brilliant, stopping 14 shots as the IceDogs maintained a 1-0 lead into the second period.
Danial Singer has become a fan favourite over the past few games with his combination of heart and skill. The St. Catharines native brought the crowd to its feet with a beautiful breakaway goal at 8:45 on assists from Oliver Castleman and Liam Ham to widen the lead to 2-0. The Wolves managed to get on the board late in the period to make it a 2-1 game heading into the third.
The third and final period had fans on the edge of their seats as the IceDogs were forced to tighten up defensively in order to weather the Wolves comeback efforts. In an unbelievable display of grit and grind, the IceDogs found a way to hold on to the lead and take this one by a score of 3-1 as Aaron Haydon tallied an empty netter with 2.9 seconds remaining in the game.
The IceDogs next home game is on November 18th as they host the Ottawa 67’s at the Meridian Centre at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online HERE or at the following locations:
