IceDogs Fall to Rangers 5-2
The IceDogs came out strong in the first period as they looked to follow up their 3-1 win against the Sudbury Wolves with another strong game. The IceDogs trailed 2-0 within the first five minutes of the game, but were able to stabilize their defence for the rest of the period. With an incredible extending pad save on a Rangers’ forward, Stephen Dhillon was able to keep the deficit to only two goals. The shots on goal after the first twenty minutes were 13-8 in Kitchener’s favour.
The second period was dominated by the goaltenders as neither team was able to find the scoresheet. Both teams generated very strong chances but Dhillon, who made 11 saves in the period, was able to shut the door for the IceDogs. The shots on goal were 11-5 in the Rangers’ favour.
The third period saw the IceDogs cut the Rangers lead in half as Graham Knott sniped home a shot from the middle of the circle to beat Rangers’ goalie Dawson Carty. The IceDogs would push for the tying goal, but that was as close as they managed to get, as Kitchener scored three unanswered goals in the period to make it 5-1. Graham Knott would give Niagara a late goal to make it 5-2, but that was all the IceDogs could muster up on the evening. The final shots on goal favoured the Rangers 36-17.
Knott’s strong performance would make him the games’ second star, providing the team with both of their goals. The IceDogs will be back at home on Saturday to face off against the Ottawa 67’s. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs’ ticketing locations.
The IceDogs wish everyone a safe and Happy New Year and are looking forward to starting 2016 strong.
