IceDogs Dominate Wolves 6-1
The IceDogs travelled to Sudbury tonight and defeated the Wolves by a commanding score of 6-1.
Little time was wasted by the IceDogs to get on the scoreboard as Aaron Haydon netted his second of the season just one minute into the first period. Brendan Perlini and Graham Knott lead Niagara’s relentless attack in the beginning of the contest, scoring a goal each that gave the IceDogs a three goal lead just four minutes into the game. Sudbury eventually cut into the lead, scoring a goal 7:15 into the frame. The first period ended with the IceDogs leading by a score of 3-1.
The IceDogs were able to extend their lead by a goal in the second period. Tyler Boston fired a wrister past the Wolves goaltender for his seventh of the season, the lone assist was credited to Graham Knott. Niagara headed into the third leading 5-1, scoring five goals on 20 shots in the first 40 minutes.
The final period saw the IceDogs using their offense for defense, spending a lot of time and exerting a lot of pressure in the offensive zone. Shortly after ringing a shot off the post, Stephen Harper scored his 18th of the season and first as a member of the IceDogs. Goaltender Stephen Dhillon was sharp all night for Niagara, stopping 31 of 32 shots faced on the night. Niagara held on to their demanding lead and finished the game with a 6-1 victory.
The IceDogs next home game is on Sunday, January 31st at 4:00pm as they are set to take on the Hamilton Bulldogs. Tickets are still available for the game and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticket locations. At the conclusion of the game there will be a live auction held in Section 105 to bid on the specially made pink jerseys the IceDogs wore for their annual Pink in the Rink event in support of the Canadian Cancer Society and Women’s Cancer Research.
