Celebrating Our Overagers
As the season comes to an end, there is no denying the impact and influence that our overagers Dakota Betts and Liam Van Loon have had on our team throughout the year, especially considering the number of rookies on the team and the team’s youth as a whole.
Dakota Betts
Originally from Bowmanville, Ontario, Betts was drafted 17th overall in the first round of the OHL U18 Priority Selection by the Kitchener Rangers. While the training camp was underway, Betts was traded to the Niagara IceDogs where he then played with the team from 2019 up until now, as he has just played his last year for the team. Betts has accumulated a total of 52 points in his 124-game career so far with the IceDogs and has a career-high of 33 points in 59 games in the current season.
Liam Van Loon
Van Loon, from London, Ontario, was drafted in the third round (50th overall) of the 2017 OHL Priority Selection by the Hamilton Bulldogs. He played there from 2017-2021, in which he racked up an impressive 74 points through 114 games in that span. He was then traded in November of 2021 to the IceDogs, and is on a career-high pace with 32 points in 39 games.
Appreciation
Throughout each of Liam and Dakota’s OHL careers, they have played a combined total of almost 300 OHL games. We would like to thank both Van Loon and Betts for their contributions to the team and to the league.
