Back to Back Shutouts for the IceDogs
The Niagara IceDogs got their third straight win and second consecutive shutout, beating the Sarnia Sting 2-0 Saturday night at the Meridian Centre.
The IceDogs power play stayed hot, as Blake Siebenaler opened the scoring at 7:44 of the first period with the man advantage. The Sting were chasing the play the whole period, getting outshot 14-6.
After a scoreless second period, Cody Payne added to the lead with his sixth goal of the season at 9:24 of the final frame, when he converted a nice pass from Jordan Maletta. A big reason for the victory was the IceDogs penalty kill. The Sting failed to score on seven power play opportunities.
Brent Moran followed up Brandon Hope’s shutout by posting one of his own, making 27 saves in the win.
The IceDogs are off until Friday, when Connor McDavid and the Erie Otters come to St. Catharines for the second time in as many weeks.
