Ryan Roobroeck and Ethan Czata Prepare For 2023 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge
NIAGARA, ON – A pair of IceDogs’ rookies, Ryan Roobroeck and Ethan Czata are preparing for the biggest tournament in their young hockey careers’ as both were named to represent Hockey Canada at the 2023 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Charlottetown and Summerside, PEI from November 2nd to November 11th. Hockey Canada’s two teams, Canada Red and Canada White, will compete against Czechia, Finland, Sweden and the USA.
Ryan Roobroeck will represent Canada Red alongside of five other OHL Players. Meanwhile, Ethan Czata will represent Canada White who’s roster features a total of ten OHL players. Both Roobroeck and Czata participated in Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence Summer Meetings back in July of this summer.
“Very excited to represent the red and white, excited to get to PEI and get to work”, noted Roobroeck who has adjusted to life in the OHL quite well with 4 goals and 3 assists for 7 points in 12 games played. The 2nd overall pick in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection was given the opportunity to represent Team Ontario at the 2023 Canada Winter Games in PEI, where he recorded 11 points in only 6 games. He will now head back to PEI to represent Hockey Canada with the opportunity to compete on the international stage. The 6’2 forward will wear #15 for Canada Red.
“It’s an honour to be selected for the U17 team, can’t wait to get to PEI and get started”, exclaimed Czata. The forward from Brampton, ON was selected 5th overall in the 2023 Priority Selection by the IceDogs and has 2 points through 11 games played so far in the OHL. When asked what he hopes to get out of this experience Czata said, “I hope to continue to build my confidence and to take what I learn and apply it to my game.” The 6’0 forward will wear #21 for Canada White.
Czata and Canada White will kick things off on November 2nd against Czechia at 11am EST. Meanwhile, Roobroeck and Canada Red will get going at 6pm EST against Finland on November 2nd.
