Ryan Mantha Invited to Buffalo Sabres Development Camp
Today the Buffalo Sabres announced the final roster for their 2016 Development Camp. Among the list of invitees is Niagara IceDogs defenceman Ryan Mantha.
Mantha was originally a draft pick of the New York Rangers, being selected in the 4th round, 104th overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. However, Mantha and the Rangers never agreed to terms on an Entry Level Contract within the required two year window. As a result Mantha was re-entered into the 2016 NHL Draft. Despite not being selected this time, the Sabres remained highly interested, inviting Mantha to their Development Camp as a free agent shortly after the draft had finished.
Mantha appeared in all but 3 games for the IceDogs this season while contributing 5 goals and 25 points. He also dressed for all 17 of Niagara’s playoff games, registering playoff career highs in goals (3), assists (7), and points (10). His strong defensive play and veteran presence were integral factors in the IceDogs triumph as Eastern Conference Champions.
