Kevin He Adds to Team Lead In Goals, IceDogs Fall Short in Mississauga
MISSISSAUGA, ON – Kevin He added to his team lead in goals (14) and the Icedogs outshot the Steelheads 47 to 38 but fall just short in Mississauga.
Final Score: MISS 5 – NIA 3
Starting Goaltenders: Owen Flores (NIA) – Ryerson Leenders (MISS)
The IceDogs got off to a physical start with Kevin He levelling Steelheads forward Porter Martone at centre ice. This would set the tone as the physical play would continue all period and all game long. Despite this the Steelheads would strike first on the powerplay as Porter Martone would find the loose puck in the crease and slide it home. The goal would require a lengthy review only for the call on the ice to stand. Minutes later Kevin He would tie the game up after a pretty give and go with Mathieu Paris as both teams were skating 4-on-4. Just 31 seconds later the Steelheads would regain their lead as a Luke Misa shot took an odd bounce and trickled over the line.
Chas Sharpe would extend the Steelheads lead just 4:23 into the middle frame as his point shot beat the traffic in front and just past Owen Flores. The IceDogs would respond with a goal of their own as Mike Levin pounced on a rebound from the Mathieu Paris shot to bring the IceDogs back within one. Once again the IceDogs would be unable to even the game as Chas Sharpe would fire the Steelheads back up two with his second of the game.
The IceDogs would get an early powerplay opportunity start to the third period looking to bring the game back within one. Ryan Roobroeck had appeared to make it 4-3 on that ensuing powerplay, however, the goal would be called back for offside. The score would still remain 4-2. With 28 seconds remaining on that powerplay the Steelheads would take another penalty, sending the IceDogs to a 5-on-3. The IceDogs would get a myriad of good looks, including an Alex Assadourian shot that rang off the crossbar. However, the IceDogs were unable to capitalize on the main advantage. The IceDogs would finally get their goal to bring the game back within one as former Steelhead and IceDogs captain, Zak Lavoie scored his 11th of the season with 5:33 remaining. Just 20 seconds later the Steelheads would once again find the back of the net to make it 5-3.
