IceDogs Fall Short to Attack
OWEN SOUND, ON – The Niagara IceDogs fell to (27-23-3-4) on the season after a 5-1 loss to the Owen Sound Attack on Wednesday night.
Owen Sound came out strong, scoring twice in quick succession midway through the first period. The Attack opened the scoring at 10:20, followed by a power-play goal at 11:54, putting the IceDogs down 2-0 early.
Despite the early deficit, Niagara continued to battle. Rookie goaltender Hayden Jeffery shined in his first career OHL start, making 23 saves and showing great poise between the pipes. Jeffery’s strong play helped the IceDogs weather Owen Sound’s offensive pressure.
Owen Sound were able to extend their lead early in the second frame, but Niagara responded with resilience. Blake Arrowsmith put the IceDogs on the board at 15:05, netting his 10th of the season off a beautiful setup from Kevin He and Matthew Virgilio.
Owen Sound quickly answered back with two goals, widening their lead to 5-1 by the end of the second period. Despite the score, Niagara continued to fight hard and generated several quality scoring chances in the third.
The IceDogs showed determination and grit throughout the game, with Jeffery’s impressive debut providing a bright spot for Niagara.
Niagara will look to bounce back tomorrow, Thursday, February 27th, when they face the Erie Otters at Meridian Centre at 7:00 PM.
