IceDogs Drop Barnburner Against Battalion
NORTH BAY, ON – The Niagara IceDogs fell to (27-15-3-3) on the season, after a 4-3 shootout loss against the North Bay Battalion.
The game featured a standout performance from 2008-born rookie goaltender Matthew Humphries, who made his first career OHL start and was outstanding, turning aside 38 shots to earn first-star honours.
North Bay opened the scoring early in the second, but the IceDogs responded just minutes later when Sean Doherty extended his goal streak to three straight games, giving him five goals in that span.
Jack Brauti then put Niagara ahead late in the period, finishing off a setup from Mike Levin and Andrei Loshko. The IceDogs extended their lead to 3-1 early in the third when Ryan Roobroeck buried a pass from Charlie Hotles and Matthew Virgilio.
The Battalion pushed back, scoring twice in a three-minute span to even the game at 3-3 and force overtime. After a scoreless extra frame, North Bay secured the extra point in the shootout.
Despite the loss, the IceDogs gained a valuable point in the Eastern Conference standings, with Humphries’ stellar debut and Doherty’s continued scoring surge providing plenty of positives moving forward.
The IceDogs are back in action on Friday, February 7th against the Sudbury Wolves at the Meridian Centre at 7:00 PM.
