IceDogs Can’t Bounce Back Against Battalion
NORTH BAY, ON – Ryan Roobroeck breaks another franchise record, Gavin Bryant and Ethan Czata find the score sheet as the IceDogs loosing woes continue.
Final Score: NB 9 – NIA 3
Starting Goaltenders: Charlie Robertson (Niagara) – Mike McIvor (North Bay)
It was a rather emotional opening frame in this contest as big hits from both sides would cause some reaction. Artem Frolov was on the receiving end of the first hit as Liam Arnsby appeared to hit him from behind. It would result in a four minute IceDogs powerplay, however, nothing would come of it for the IceDogs. Dalyn Wakely would then open the scoring for the Battalion with his 33rd of the season. Following the goal, Connor Federkow would deliver a heavy hit a Battalion forward, causing a two minute powerplay for North Bay. They would capitalize on it after Sandis Vilmanis’ entering pass hit off of Frolov’s stick and in. The IceDogs would get some great scoring opportunities late in period but would trail by two.
The middle period wouldn’t be much better for the IceDogs as North Bay put five goals past Robertson. Nonetheless, this period would end up being franchise altering as Ryan Roobroeck broke yet another franchise record. After blocking a point shot, Roobroeck would find himself on a breakaway as he beat McIvor on the backhand for his 24th of the season. This goal would mark the most goals in any rookie season in franchise history. The record was previously held by Chris DeSousa and *Marco Insam*(the definition of a rookie has since changed from when Insam scored 23 goals). DeSousa scored 23 in his 17-year-old season while Insam scored 23 in his 18-year-old season. Gavin Bryant would also find the back of the net as the IceDogs trailed 7-2 after two periods of play.
The Battalion would get two more in the period to make in nine on the day. Ethan Czata would tack on a late one in this contest to bring his goal total up to seven on the season.
