GameDay Preview: IceDogs host long-time playoff rival, 67s
The Niagara IceDogs home this evening as the Ottawa 67s pay a visit to the Meridian Centre. Ottawa, a long-time playoff rival, are coming off a shootout loss last night to the Otters, so the ‘Dogs will be looking to take advantage of a potentially tired 67s team. The last time the 67s were in town, it was a low scoring affair. The 67s eventually scored late in overtime to take home the win, the ‘Dogs will be out for revenge tonight.
The IceDogs’ special teams have come alive this season, ranking in the third in league penalty killing, a strong point that continues to help in tight games.
Ben Jones continues to lead the league in powerplay goals, with 8, while Kirill Maksimov ranks fifth with 7. Akil Thomas ranks second in league powerplay assists, with 11. The ‘Dogs are lead on the scoresheet by Kirill Maksimov, Ben Jones and Akil Thomas, who each have 21 points on the season. The IceDogs have received secondary scoring from second year forwards Danial Singer, Matthew Philip and Oliver Castleman, while the defensemen have become more activated in the offensive zone. Last game, against Owen Sound, Liam Ham scored the tying goal and very nearly won the game in overtime.
