GAME RECAP |IceDogs extend point streak to 7-games
Following last night’s 4-3 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs, the Niagara IceDogs hit the road to London. Tonight’s game was the first against the Knights this season, and the first of two games in less than a month.
With the Holiday break looming, the Niagara IceDogs were without Daniel Bukac, Jason Robertson and Kyen Sopa, who are attending world junior selection camps for their respective teams. AJ Cook, who signed a Standard Player Agreement with the ‘Dogs following training camp, dressed in his first OHL regular season game in London.
Ivan Lodnia picked up right where he left off last night, by opening the scoring 4 minutes into the first period! Ben Jones sprung Lodnia on a breakaway, where he beat Jordan Kooy five-hole to score his 3rd goal in 2 nights. Drew Hunter was credited with the secondary assist. London tied the game at 1 with two minutes remaining in the period.
After drawing a penalty in the offensive zone, Jacob Paquette led a charge into the Knights’ zone with the extra man, as a penalty was called on the play. After a scramble in front of the London net, the puck was frozen and we were sent to the powerplay. With 15 seconds remaining on the man-advantage, Oliver Castleman learned how important it is to be in the right place at the right time. Elijah Roberts shot the puck, and Bradey Johnson redirected the puck into the crest, but Oliver Castleman’s stick lifted the rebound into an empty cage to score his 7th of the season, and the 2-1 goal! London scored a powerplay goal of their own to tie the game up at 2 heading into the third period.
The third period featured great saves by both goaltenders. Stephen Dhillon absolutely stole the show with his stellar play between the pipes. 60 minutes solved nothing, as we headed into bonus hockey. It was the Knights who pulled through to win this one 3-2.
The IceDogs continued their points streak to 7-games!
Our next game, and last before the Holiday Break, is our Ugly Christmas Sweater game at home on Saturday December 15th against the Oshawa Generals! The ‘Dogs will be wearing specialty jerseys. Post-game, the jerseys will be auctioned off by Luke’s Auctions in Section 105, with all proceeds going to Community Care.
There will be two donation drives at Saturday’s game! Community Care will be at all entrances before the game with barrels collecting non-perishable food items.
