GAME RECAP: ‘Dogs finish 2-game road stand with 6-2 loss to Colts
The Niagara IceDogs are back on the road tonight against Central Division rivals, the Colts, in Barrie. Following a 3-2 overtime loss, the ‘Dogs come into this game with sole possession of first in the division. They will be looking to extend their lead tonight.
The Colts jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after scoring two unanswered goals in the first period. The Colts added another early in the 2nd period to extend their lead to three. The ‘Dogs seemed to wake up midway through the 2nd period. After getting into some penalty trouble, the IceDogs found themselves on a 4 on 4. With the open space in the offensive zone, Jonathon Schaefer skated in deep and roofed his first goal of the season! Kirill Maksimov picked up the assist on Schaefs’ goal to cut the Colts’ lead to 2! Then, on the ensuing powerplay, Akil Thomas scored an elusive powerplay goal to bring the ‘Dogs within one! Liam Ham and Kirill Maksimov were credited with the assists. With less than 5 seconds remaining in the 2nd period, the Colts extended their lead to 2. In the 3rd period, Barrie extended their lead to 4 goals. The game ended with a 6-2 score.
The ‘Dogs are back home on Friday as we host our annual Pink in the Rink game on the 26th.

Tickets are still available for our next home game, Friday, January 26th against the Sarnia Sting. Friday’s game is our annual Pink in the Rink game, in support of women’s cancers. The ‘Dogs will be wearing commemorative pink jerseys that will be auctioned live post-game, with all proceeds being donated in support of the Canadian Cancer society. Tickets are limited, but we hope to see you there! Fans are encouraged to print their own “I Fight For” sign and post a photo to social media tagging the Niagara IceDogs to show their support for our Pink In The Rink Game.
