Castleman and Doherty Score in 4-2 Loss to Otters
Tonight, the Niagara IceDogs hosted the first “School Night” game against the Erie Otters. With only seven games remaining on the ‘Dogs schedule, they still remain in the playoff race.
A back and forth start to the game, led to a penalty ridden first frame. The IceDogs came within 1 second of killing 4 minutes worth of back to back penalties, but unfortunately the Otters tipped one in to get on the board. Giancarlo Chanton made a crucial defensive play seconds later, tying up an Otter forward in front of the net to negate a backdoor opportunity. The Otters scored twice more to extend their lead to 3-0. Oliver Castleman answered back on the IceDogs’ power play, scoring his career high 22nd goal on the season. Cameron Butler and Ivan Lodnia picked up assists on the IceDogs’ first goal of the game.

The game remained 3-1 as both teams exited the ice for the first intermission.
The second period saw the IceDogs receiving 8 minutes of power play time. The ‘Dogs’ best chance came off of Cameron Butler shooting from the top of the circle beating the Otter goaltender but unable to beat the crossbar.
5:48 into the third period, Jackson Doherty released a rocket of a wrister to get the ‘Dogs within one. Andrew Bruder assisted Doherty’s goal that closed the Otter’s lead to 3-2.
