Bryant Scores Two In Back-and-Forth Defeat to the Otters
NIAGARA, ON – Gavin Bryant scores two goals in defeat to the Erie Otters, while Kevin He added one goal and one assist.
Final Score: ER 6 – NIA 4
Starting Goaltenders: Ethan Fraser (Erie) – Owen Flores (Niagara)
It would be a wild opening period in this contest as both teams went back and forth, trading goals all period long. Dylan Edwards and the Erie Otters would get the scoring started just 1:19 into the game, silencing the home crowd. Ivan Galiyanov would provide a response for the IceDogs just over four minutes later as he pounded home the rebound off of a Alex Assadourian shot. Kevin He would then spring the IceDogs into lead after receiving a beautiful flip pass from Artem Frolov, sending him on a breakaway and making no mistake to make it 2-1. However, it would be Dylan Edwards again to even the score at two apiece. The IceDogs would cap off the wild period with a Gavin Bryant powerplay goal with only 1:07 remaining in the period to go back ahead.
After a crazy opening period the middle frame would provide more excitement as the back and forth goal scoring would continue. The IceDogs would get off on the right note as Gavin Bryant scored his 2nd of the game off of a pass from Urban Podrekar to extend the lead to two. The Otters were showing no quit as Pano Fimis was able to grab one back to cut the lead in half. With the period winding down the IceDogs were only minutes away from getting out of the period. However, Sam Alfano has other plans, beating Flores on the back hand to even the score. It had initially appeared that Flores had made the outstretched save, only for video replay to rule it a goal. The game would be tied at four heading into the final period.
The final frame would not go as planned for the IceDogs as the Otters managed to jump into the lead at the 9:19 mark through Sam Alfano’s second goal of the game. This would mark the third straight goal for the Otters as they managed to erase a two goal deficit. The Otters would then add an insurance marker through Brett Hammond at the 12:41 mark. With still lots of time on the clock the IceDogs would amp up the pressure in search of momentum. That momentum would never come as Martin Misiak would eventually ice the game with an empty net goal.
