Kyen Sopa Named OHL’s Second Star – December 4th, 2019
1ST STAR: MATTHEW STRUTHERS (OWEN SOUND ATTACK) – 1G, 2A
Matthew Struthers earned the title of OT hero in his first game back with the Owen Sound Attack. The 19-year-old registered two assists and scored 2:19 into overtime to lift the Attack to a 6-5 win over the Niagara IceDogs on home ice. A former third round pick of the Attack in 2015, Struthers returns to the Bears after putting up 21 points (11-10–21) through 25 games to start the season with the North Bay Battalion. The 19-year-old from Milton, Ont. registered an 81 point (31-50–81) season with the Troops in 2018-19. Struthers attended rookie camp with the Montreal Canadiens in September.

2ND STAR: KYEN SOPA (NIAGARA ICEDOGS) – 2G, 2A
Though Niagara couldn’t finish with the W, IceDogs forward Kyen Sopa finished the night off with four points (2-2-4). The 5-foot-9 winger is no stranger to multi-point nights and currently sits third in club scoring with 29 (14-15–29) points in his second year with the Dogs. Born in Flawil, Switzerland, Sopa was Niagara’s first round (36th overall) pick in the 2018 CHL Import Draft.

3RD STAR: NICO DAWS (GUELPH STORM) – 38 SV
Guelph Storm netminder Nico Daws stopped 38 of the 40 shots he faced before denying all Saginaw Spirit opponents he faced in the shootout as the Storm skated to a 3-2 road win. The 6-foot-4 goaltender improves to 12-2-1-3 on the season with a league-leading 2.11 goals-against average and .937 save percentage. Daws will attend Canada’s National Junior Team Selection Camp in Oakville next week. The 19-year-old hoisted the Robertson Cup as an OHL champion with the Storm last spring.
