Jason Robertson Named 2nd Star of January 24th, 2019
1ST STAR: COLE COSKEY (SAGINAW SPIRIT):
Nineteen year-old Cole Coskey continues to make his case for an NHL contract, putting forth another strong performance on Thursday. Coskey’s third period game winner led the Saginaw Spirit to their 29th win, equalling their total from the entire 2017-18 season.. Coskey finished the night with two goals and an assist as Saginaw edged the Peterborough Petes 5-4 on the road. Coskey now has points in each of his last five games, recording his sixth multi-goal outing of the season. A fourth-year veteran from Zion, Ill., Coskey leads the Spirit with 56 points (26-30–56) through 41 games this season. The former third round pick in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection attended the U.S. National Junior Team Selection Camp and also attended rookie camp with the Buffalo Sabres in September.
2ND STAR: JASON ROBERTSON (NIAGARA ICEDOGS):
When he isn’t scoring, Niagara IceDogs winger Jason Robertson is helping his teammates find the back of the net. The Dallas Stars prospect racked up four assists in Wednesday’s 6-3 win over the visiting Erie Otters to give him at least four points in nine different games this season. Three of Robertson’s four assists came on the power play as the 19-year-old from Northville, Mich. increased his season total to 74 points (33-41–74) over 39 games. Robertson has at least a point in 22 of his last 23 games, helping the IceDogs strengthen their grip on the Central Division lead. He was Dallas’ second round pick in 2017 and recently represented the United States at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.
3RD STAR: ADAM RUZICKA (SUDBURY WOLVES):
Calgary Flames prospect Adam Ruzicka continues to make a strong impression with his new club, the Sudbury Wolves. The big Slovakian centreman had a goal and two assists in a 7-0 road blanking of the rival North Bay Battalion. The 6-foot-4 pivot registered his third three-point game of the season, giving him eight (5-3–8) in seven games with Sudbury. Ruzicka won eight of his 13 faceoffs and increased his total to 45 points (16-29–45) over 42 games between Sarnia and Sudbury this season. Calgary’s fourth round pick in 2017, Ruzicka represented his native Slovakia at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.
