The Niagara IceDogs are in Kingston tonight to continue their 5-game road trip! Tonight marks the fourth, and final game of their season series, which the IceDogs currently trail 2-1, with the lone win coming in overtime in December in Kingston.
The ‘Dogs are being led on the scoresheet by Sam Miletic, who was recently named the OHL’s Player of the Month. Miletic who picked up a goal last night currently sits 4th in league scoring with 70 points on the season. He also ranks 4th in league assists, with 45. Despite the powerplay has struggled as of late, in the past three games, the IceDogs have capitalized on the power play to score 6 goals with the man advantage. Kirill Maksimov ranks in the top 5 of league-wide powerplay goals scored, with 11, tied with Danial Singer, while Akil Thomas continues to rank at the top of the league with 5th most powerplay assists, with 20. Kirill Maksimov continues to rank in the top 5 of league insurance goals, with 5 on the season. Stephen Dhillon comes into this game sitting in 5th in most wins by a goalie with 22 on the season. Although, after having been removed early in the third period after a collision in his own net with an Ottawa player, it’s unknown if he’ll return between the pipes tonight. In his relief, Colton Incze stopped all 5 shots he faced in the third period.
The ‘Dogs will be facing a very good Kingston team, who made many big acquisitions at the deadline to be playoff ready. In their last 5 games, they’re 4-1, despite having lost the talents of Max Jones to injury. Tonight’s game will likely become a contest of special teams, as both teams’ powerplays and penalty killing have been strong as of late.
