GAMEDAY PREVIEW | IceDogs finish 3 in 3 weekend in North Bay this afternoon
The Niagara IceDogs are in North Bay this afternoon to close out their 3 in less than 3 weekend! Coming into this afternoon’s matinee against the Battalion, the ‘Dogs have a pair of 6-goal games in hand, and have won two consecutive games. Tonight marks the fifth game in their season series, in which the IceDogs lead with 3 wins and 1 loss. This game marks defenseman Liam Ham’s 100th career OHL regular season game.
The ‘Dogs are being led on the scoresheet by Sam Miletic, who’s collected 13 pts since becoming an IceDog. The newly named assistant captain, who’s collected a hattrick, and two assists this weekend, currently sits 5th in league scoring with 67 points on the season. He also ranks 3rd in league assists, with 44. Despite the powerplay having struggled as of late, in the past two games, the IceDogs have capitalized on the powerplay to score 4 goals with the man advantage. Danial Singer ranks in the top 5 of league-wide powerplay goals scored, with 11, while Akil Thomas continues to rank at the top of the league with 4th most powerplay assists, with 19. Kirill Maksimov continues to rank in the top 5 of league insurance goals, with 5 on the season. Stephen Dhillon comes into this game sitting in 5th in most wins by a goalie with 22 on the season.
The ‘Dogs will be facing a surging Battalion team. Despite having traded two of their top scorers at the deadline, North Bay finds themselves just 10 points out of first place (which currently belongs to the ‘Dogs). They’re lead offensively by Justin Brazeau and Luke Burghardt, who have 54 and 51 points, respectively. This game may end up being a battle of the special teams, as both teams’ powerplay and penalty kill have very similar efficiency.
