GAME RECAP | ‘Dogs capture 5 of 6 points to finish 3 in 3 weekend!
The IceDogs were back in action this afternoon in North Bay following last night’s 6-2 win in Sudbury. This afternoon’s game is the 5th of the ‘Dogs season series against the Battalion. The ‘Dogs lead the series 3 games to 1. Most recently, the ‘Dogs defeated the Battalion in North Bay at the end of December. This game also marked the 100th OHL regular season game played by defenseman Liam Ham.
The ‘Dogs got off to a hot start in this game as Sam Miletic capitalized on a powerplay opportunity! He threw the puck on net, and narrowly squeezed the puck between the Battalion netminder, Propp, and the goal post to give the IceDogs a 1-0 lead midway through the 1st period. Akil Thomas picked up the primary assist, while Stephen Dhillon was credited with the secondary helper.
In the 2nd period, the Battalion tied the game with their own flukey powerplay goal of their own. But, Kirill Maksimov potted home another ‘Dogs powerplay goal picking up a behind the back pass from Danial Singer to score on the open net. Ben Jones was credited with the other assist on Maksi’s goal.
The IceDogs were on a 5 on 3 powerplay to start the 3rd period, but the Battalion scored twice to tie the game, and take the 3-2 lead. With less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation, Ben Jones scored his 18th goal of the season by shooting the puck through a gaping 5-hole to tie the game up at 3! Sam Miletic and Kirill Maksimov picked up the assists on Jonesy’s goal. Despite putting on the pressure, the ‘Dogs couldn’t end the game in regulation.
For the second time this weekend, the ‘Dogs secured at least one point as the game headed into overtime. Despite dominating much of the play in overtime, the game headed to a shootout where North Bay ended it to the game to win it 4-3.
The ‘Dogs are back in action next weekend in Ottawa and Kingston.
