Game Recap: IceDogs Down Rangers 5-2 in final preseason game
The IceDogs travelled west this afternoon to take on the Rangers in Kitchener, to close out their OHL Preseason schedule. Hoping to finish strong after a pair of close games this weekend, your IceDogs came in dialled in ready for a tight one.
28 seconds into the game, Ondrej Machala got things going with his third goal in 24 hours. Machala’s goal was assisted by Danial Singer. Just over a minute later, Matthew Philip doubled the IceDogs lead to 2 with a goal of his own. Danial Singer and Ondrej Machala picked up their second points of the game with assists on Philip’s goal. Shortly after Philip’s goal, Andrew Bruder found Philip Tomasino with a beauty of a cross-crease pass to extend the ‘Dogs lead to 3. Stevie Dhillon did what he does best, making big saves, through the first and second period. Kitchener capitalized on a pair of penalties to bring themselves within 2.
Nearing the halfway point of the third period, Andrew Somerville and Bradey Johnson were sprung on a 2 on 1 break, and Somerville scored to restore the ‘Dogs’ 2-goal lead. Minutes after Somerville’s tally, Kyle Langdon got in on the fun to add to the lead. The boys hung on to the 5-2 win, finishing their preseason on a high.
