Gens and Swiss Chalet Award Sir Albert Love $500 To Their School Library
The Oshawa Generals were proud to partner with Swiss Chalet to launch our inaugural Gens Reading Club. This season, the Oshawa Generals Hockey Club promoted reading by visiting various schools in the Durham Region. At the end of each visit, each student received an Oshawa Generals bookmark with a Swiss Chalet coupon attached. When Children read 5 books verified by the student’s teacher, they will receive a free kids meal at participating Swiss Chalet Restaurants. The Gens visited schools in the Durham Region every week on Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s to promote the program and partnership with Swiss Chalet Restaurants.
Upon completion of the program this spring, all schools that took part over the course of the season were put into a draw to win $500 to their school library from the Oshawa Generals and Swiss Chalet. Sir Albert Love Catholic School in Oshawa is the first winner of the donation.
“As a business, our focus is feeding families. In our communities, we look beyond the business to nourish the hearts and minds of young Canadians. We’re honoured to be a partner on this program, supporting reading and learning among our local kids” said George Tsilikas, Business Development Manager with Swiss Chalet on awarding the cheque to the children at Sir Albert Love.
“We are so grateful to the Oshawa Generals and Swiss Chalet for the $500 donation to our library – learning commons. We will be using your generous donation to purchase books for Battle of the Books, for Catholic Education Week and for Blue Spruce, Silver Birch and Red Maple reading programs.” Phyllis Pereira, Principal at Sir Albert Love Catholic School.
