Game Recap: Oshawa vs. Peterborough
1st Period
The 115 rivalry started 45 seconds into the first as Peterborough was handed their first penalty of the night. The parade to the penalty box continued throughout the period. The Generals stepped up and peppered the Petes goalie Mancina with 11 shots in the first. Completely controlling the play the Generals were all over the Petes, they just could not put one past Mancina. It took Peterborough 17 minutes to record their first shot on goal.
Not only a defensive shutdown for the Generals but they controlled the game in all aspects.
2nd Period
Four more power plays in the second and the Generals started to capitalize. First it was a Desrochers shot that was deflected by Mistele off his jersey no less; the second assist went to Smereck. Cirelli then scored off a rebound from a shot by Dal Colle for the second power-play goal of the night; the second assist went to Desrocher.
The Petes started to fight back in the second tallying seven shots, but Brodeur stood tall and kept everything out. By the end of the second the Generals had outshot the Petes ten to seven and led the game two to nothing.
3rd Period
In the third period, the Generals focused on shutting the Petes down. Limiting them to five shots and even fewer chances. The Generals outshot the Petes nine to five in the third. With time running out, the Petes took one last shot and pulled the goalie with a minute and a half left. Forty seconds later, Manchurek hit the centre of the empty net, and it was all but over.
This was a great game for the Generals, suffocating the Petes offense and taking advantage of opportunities. Brodeur did what he needed to and made 14 saves on the night for his third shutout in four games. The power play again was lethal it came through twice this game. In the end, the Generals were the better team from start to finish and took a big two points home.
